Tasmania’s struggles at their Launceston home continued with another narrow loss, falling 103-102 to South-East Melbourne in a gripping contest on Thursday. The JackJumpers entered with a disappointing 2-7 record at the Silverdome, following a poor 75-69 defeat to Cairns on Saturday.
Despite a stellar performance by Bryce Hamilton, who scored 36 points on 16-23 shooting, the JackJumpers suffered their third consecutive home loss, slipping to 5-6 overall.
In contrast, the Phoenix, who began last season 2-6, have surged to a 7-2 record and currently hold second place on the ladder after outlasting the hosts in one of the season’s most thrilling games.
"Not even 36 points off 16-23 shooting from Hamilton couldn’t prevent the JackJumpers falling to 5-6."
Late mistakes by the Phoenix almost cost them the game. Two critical turnovers gave Tasmania an opportunity to snatch victory, but Ben Ayre’s corner three-pointer missed as the clock expired.
Phoenix youngster Malique Lewis delivered an impressive performance, scoring 23 points on 9-11 shooting. He was especially impactful in the first half with 18 points, converting his first five shots.
Despite Bryce Hamilton’s brilliance, Tasmania’s home woes persist as South-East Melbourne escapes with a thrilling 103-102 victory, fueled by Malique Lewis’ early scoring burst.
