AtkinsRéalis Group Inc. (TSX: ATRL), a leading global engineering and nuclear services company, has been chosen by Hydro One Networks Inc. to lead a multi-year Owner's Engineer project to expand the Bowmanville Switching Station.
The substation, located opposite the Darlington Nuclear Generating Station, will be upgraded to support the connection of four planned Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) by Ontario Power Generation at the nearby Darlington New Nuclear Project site.
"Delivering nation-building energy projects in Canada and around the world has been a hallmark of our work in the Power & Renewables sector for decades," said Ian L. Edwards, President and CEO of AtkinsRéalis.
"Our sector has been involved in marquee projects globally, supported by our centre of excellence in Canada. AtkinsRéalis is perfectly suited to deliver work on this substation, which is a critical link in supplying electricity from the Darlington New Nuclear Project to the people of southern Ontario, including Toronto."
The Bowmanville Switching Station expansion is a vital step to connect new SMRs at the Darlington New Nuclear Project to southern Ontario’s electricity grid, including Toronto.
This initiative is expected to strengthen regional power supply and advance Canada’s nuclear energy capabilities.
