Justin Rose's management team told Today's Golfer that the English golfer has decided to focus on playing in one more Ryder Cup before considering a captaincy role.
The shortlist appears to be down to two candidates. In July, at the Genesis Scottish Open, Rose shared with TG that he would “love” to captain the team at Adare Manor in 2027 and would “give everything” to that responsibility.
Shortly after expressing his desire to captain, Rose won the FedEx St Jude Championship, the first of the three PGA Tour season-ending playoffs. This victory secured him an automatic spot on Luke Donald’s team at Bethpage.
At Bethpage, Rose scored two points, increasing his Ryder Cup record to 17½ points and placing him in the all-time top 10. This achievement has fueled his desire to continue playing.
According to a report by The Telegraph’s James Corrigan, sources close to Rose confirmed he aims to play in the Ryder Cup for the eighth time. Rose’s team confirmed to TG that he “does want to play in another one” but has not yet spoken with Ryder Cup Europe’s decision-makers while enjoying downtime after competing in 20 events over eight months.
“I’m not sure that’s a role we should be entertaining really,”
Rose clarified in an interview at Renaissance that he is not interested in a player-captain role.
Justin Rose prioritizes playing in one more Ryder Cup before stepping into a captaincy role, focusing fully on his current career rather than combining responsibilities.
