Any discussion about the Miami Heat’s key player was settled early in the eighth game of the season when Bam Adebayo exited with a foot injury. With Adebayo sidelined during the first quarter, the Heat struggled and lost 122-112 to the Denver Nuggets at Ball Arena on Wednesday night.
“Obviously it was too much to play through, and then obviously you don’t want to do anything more to cause any more lingering effects,” Adebayo said. “I felt a pain in my foot so I took it upon myself to check myself out and go see what happened. We’ll get more tests tomorrow and see how it goes.”
Adebayo expects to have an MRI in Miami on Friday to learn more about the injury.
The Heat, already short on size, played most of the game with the slender 7-foot Kel’el Ware at center, who faced challenges defending the boards.
“Hope it’s nothing bad and he’ll be able to be back,” Ware said about Adebayo.
Miami dropped to an even 4-4 record and suffered their 11th straight loss to the Nuggets. Nikola Jokic dominated with a triple-double, finishing with 33 points, 16 assists, and 15 rebounds, achieving the milestone by midway through the third quarter.
Offensively, the Heat were led by Norman Powell with 23 points, Andrew Wiggins with 22, and Jaime Jaquez Jr. with 21.
Bam Adebayo’s foot injury early in the game highlights his importance to the Heat as they fell to the Nuggets despite strong efforts from key players, including a dominant triple-double from Nikola Jokic.
