Hilary Duff opened up about her time on the beloved Disney Channel series Lizzie McGuire during an appearance on the "Therapuss" podcast with host Jake Shane on November 5. While promoting her new song "Mature," Duff also shared memories from her iconic role and insights into the show's success.
Reflecting on the show's popularity, Duff said, "I had the best time." She highlighted how Lizzie McGuire set new viewership records for the network, which then influenced the production approach of subsequent series.
“Lizzie McGuire broke all of their records.”
Duff explained the structured approach Disney Channel took with their shows: “They just ordered a certain amount of episodes, and that was what they did for their shows. They spent this amount of money, they had this amount of order, and they stuck to that formula for all of those shows.” She recalled the intense filming schedules, mentioning that in one year they might shoot 30 episodes, and in another year around 35.
Addressing fan curiosity about Lizzie and Gordo's relationship beyond the series, Duff shared her personal interpretation. She said they likely did not truly become a couple after the show ended.
“I think they had maybe an almost thing post.”
Duff added a playful perspective on Lizzie’s romantic life: “In my mind, I like to think she had a thing with Ethan Craft [Clayton Snyder], finally.” She also reassured fans that Gordo “is always there to pick up her pieces still.”
Hilary Duff fondly recalls Lizzie McGuire as a groundbreaking Disney hit with a rigid production formula, while offering her own take on Lizzie’s relationships after the series.
