The Miss Universe Organisation has limited the involvement of Thailand's pageant director, Nawat Itsaragrisil, in future Miss Universe events following a public confrontation. During a pre-pageant event in Thailand, Itsaragrisil called Miss Mexico, Fátima Bosch, “dumb.”
At the event, which gathered contestants from many countries, Itsaragrisil urged participants to "promote the host country" and warned,
“Be careful, you are in Thailand, you are in a game.”
Tensions rose when he accused Bosch of not posting promotional content about Thailand, allegedly due to instructions from her national director. Bosch defended herself, but Itsaragrisil interrupted, raising his voice:
“If you follow the orders from your national director, you are dumb.”
Refusing to sit down, Bosch responded,
“Because I have a voice.”The director then called security, which outraged other contestants. Many stood in solidarity with Bosch as she left the auditorium.
“As women, you need to show respect for us.”
This incident highlights tensions within the Miss Universe pageant, prompting the organization to restrict Itsaragrisil's future participation to maintain respect and professionalism.
