The International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT) developed the AIRcraft Local Impact Footprint Tool (AIRLIFT) dataset to provide detailed information on air pollutants and fuel use related to aircraft landing and take-off (LTO) operations globally in 2023.
LTO operations at airports emit significant amounts of pollutants such as nitrogen oxides (NOx), fine particulate matter (PM2.5), hydrocarbons (HC), and carbon monoxide (CO). These operations represent roughly 10% of total aviation emissions and have been linked to higher respiratory risks for people living near airports.
This dataset supports policymakers, researchers, and communities by providing critical data needed to understand and develop strategies to reduce harmful emissions from aircraft during LTO phases.
Landing and take-off (LTO) operations at airports release a significant amount of air pollutants, including nitrogen oxides (NOx), fine particulate matter (PM2.5), hydrocarbons (HC), and carbon monoxide (CO).
Studies have shown that residents living near airports experience increased risk to respiratory problems.

Summary: The AIRLIFT dataset offers crucial air pollutant and fuel use data from global aircraft operations to help reduce emissions and protect public health near airports.
