Cambrian College will introduce a Dental Assisting program starting this January, responding to the demand from dental practices in Northern Ontario for qualified staff.
The 10-month program combines online courses with weekend sessions held on campus, allowing students to earn their certificate while maintaining their jobs. Additionally, students complete a seven-week placement to gain practical experience in a dental practice.
“Dental assistants play a vital role in supporting dentists and dental hygienists, and enhancing patient care,” said Rachel Steels, dean of Cambrian’s School of Health Sciences.
They perform various clinical and administrative tasks, such as infection control, taking x-rays, assisting during procedures, chairside support, patient education, and managing office coordination.
The program's introduction is a response to strong demand from the local community and dental industry for skilled dental assistants.
Cambrian College’s new Dental Assisting program offers flexible training with practical experience to meet Northern Ontario’s growing need for qualified dental support staff.
