A Long Island resident has filed a $60M lawsuit against the Nassau police for an alleged wrongful arrest at a legislative hearing in 2024.
The plaintiff, Maria Campanelli, 27, suffered a traumatic brain injury, bruising, emotional distress, and other damages after being "manhandled" by Nassau officers at the Aug. 5, 2024, legislative meeting in Mineola.
The lawsuit, filed in federal court in Central Islip, argues that police officers assaulted and arrested the wrong suspect while responding to a report of an unruly person at a Nassau County legislature hearing on the Mask Transparency Act.
Campanelli was "manhandled" by Nassau officers.
