Agentic AI: Where are we now? Databricks’ EMEA CTO gives his take

Agentic AI: Current State

Databricks' EMEA CTO discusses the remaining barriers to enterprise adoption of agentic AI and how they are being overcome.

Earlier this year, the lack of visibility of AI agents outside of big tech demos was noted, despite the significant noise surrounding them. At a recent Databricks event in London, Dael Williamson, EMEA CTO, was asked about this apparent reticence.

Definition of an AI Agent

Williamson defined an AI agent as "an AI system that has autonomy over, or agency over, a task." He emphasized that these systems are probabilistic.

"An agent is an AI system that has autonomy over, or agency over, a task.”

Williamson acknowledged that real-world examples of agents in production are still scarce.
