Maryland's Six Flags America closes for good, property site now for sale

Maryland's Six Flags America Closes for Good

Six Flags America in Bowie, Maryland has officially closed its doors for the last time. The site, which opened in 1974 as a wildlife center, was sold and rebranded several times before Six Flags took over in 1999.

The park held a special place in the hearts of many, being a local amusement park. Hundreds of visitors attended the park one last time, while others stopped by for a photo opportunity.

"I think they should keep it," said park attendee Brian Fox. "It definitely gives a lot of kids jobs, things to do during the summer. Next year, what are they gonna do?"

Prince George's County leaders noted that the park generates about $3 million in tax revenue annually, but believe the site has the potential to do better.

The property is now up for sale, leaving many to wonder what will become of the site. The next closest amusement park is located in New Jersey.

Author's summary: Six Flags America closes permanently.
