Education Minister Intervenes in University Fee Increases
The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has instructed the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) to direct public universities to suspend unauthorized tuition fee increases.
This decision comes after reports of some universities unilaterally raising fees, despite the government's "No Fees Stress Policy", which offers free tertiary education to first-year students and persons with disabilities.
Mr. Iddrisu expressed disappointment at institutions attempting to exploit the policy for financial gain.
