A 32-year-old man was seen swimming in Frobisher Bay on Oct. 28 before he failed to resurface.
At approximately 2:40 p.m., his activity was reported to the RCMP. Ten minutes later, it was reported that the man went underwater and did not resurface.
Iqaluit Emergency Services and the RCMP recovered his body at approximately 3 p.m.
The police have deemed the death as a drowning and do not believe any criminal act was involved, but the incident remains under investigation with the involvement of the Nunavut Coroner’s Office.
The Iqaluit RCMP extend their condolences to the family and friends of the deceased and thank those who assisted in recovery efforts.
