WhatsApp Now Lets You Protect Chat Backups with Passkeys

WhatsApp is adding passkey support to access end-to-end encrypted chat backups, making it easier to access them in case your phone is lost or damaged.

Previously, users had to note down a 64-digit string of letters and numbers to unlock encrypted WhatsApp backups, which was a tedious task.

With passkeys, users can quickly access and restore WhatsApp chats on any device using their biometric or screen lock code, such as fingerprint, screen lock, or Face ID.

To set up passkey backups, users can tap on the profile icon at the top on Android or the Settings tab at the bottom on iOS.

WhatsApp has been testing the passkey feature for some time now and is now rolling it out globally on both Android and iOS.
