Voters to Decide on Adirondack Land Use with Proposal 1

Voters will decide whether the Mount Van Hoevenberg Olympic Sports Complex can continue using state forest land.

Proposal 1 focuses on the complex in Essex County, a landmark that hosted two Winter Olympic Games and remains a cornerstone of the Lake Placid area.

“It’s just tremendously important to the economy of the region and making New York State so attractive to international winter competition,”

said Joe Martens, board chair of the Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA).

Facilities at the complex have expanded onto state forest land within the Adirondack Park over time.

Author's summary: Voters decide on Adirondack land use.
