Provincial Hiring Freeze
In Ontario, over 100 boards, agencies, and provincial commissions were affected by an immediate hiring freeze imposed by the government.
Caroline Mulroney, President of the Treasury Board, announced the freeze on September 26, stating:
Our government is implementing a hiring freeze across Ontario’s provincial agencies, boards, and commission public bodies. This freeze will support the government’s ongoing efforts to be disciplined and responsible with taxpayer money while putting more resources into front line service delivery, and back into the pockets of taxpayers.
The freeze is a response to significant growth in the size of provincial agencies, according to the government.
