A Task Force has been launched during the Lau Provincial Council Meeting to address HIV, drug issues, and youth empowerment, and to strengthen prevention and control measures across the islands.
The Tui Nayau and Sau ni Vanua o Lau consultant, Nacanieli Yalimaiwai, highlighted that the initiative aims to create awareness, improve access to health services, and prevent the further spread of HIV within the province.
The four critical focus areas are HIV and drug abuse, poverty and unemployment, youth empowerment, and iTaukei rights.
According to Yalimaiwai, the Vanua of Lau is taking action now because the growing crises of HIV and drug abuse are no longer confined to urban areas.
The taskforce is expected to roll out awareness programs in villages and schools to ensure communities are better informed and protected.
