Marcus Wiedower, first sworn into office in 2019, announced his resignation from the Georgia General Assembly to focus on his role at Hillpointe, a real estate development firm, where he serves as vice president of external affairs.
His immediate resignation from House District 121 triggers a special election to be held in December. Currently, Democrat Eric Gisler is running for the House seat in 2026 but may also choose to run in the special election.
This is not the first instance of a State Representative for Oconee resigning and triggering a special election. In 2017, special elections were held to fill the seats of Rep. Chuck Williams and Regina Quick, who left office for other positions.
Notably, in 2017, Democrats Jonathan Wallace and Deborah Gonzalez won both House seats representing Oconee County.
No comment from the officials.
