A state representative, Marcus Wiedower, is stepping down from his position, creating another vacancy in the General Assembly.
Wiedower, a Republican from Watkinsville, announced his resignation on Tuesday after six years in the House. He cited the rapid growth of his company, Hillpointe, a real estate development and investment management firm, as the reason for his departure.
“While I’m stepping away from elected office, I look forward to remaining actively involved in our community and continuing to help tackle Georgia’s most pressing challenges, especially attainable housing through my work at Hillpointe,”
he said in a statement. The company's expansion will require more travel, taking him away from the Capitol during the legislative session.
