Starting from 2026, students in Kenya will collect their KCPE and KCSE certificates from Sub-County education offices, rather than their former schools.
The Ministry of Education has announced this policy shift to address the issue of school heads withholding certificates from students with outstanding school fee balances.
The Sub-County offices will be furnished with registers to confirm that the legitimate students pick up their certificates.
This decision was announced by Cabinet Secretary for Education, Julius Ogamba, during an appearance before the National Assembly’s Committee on Education.
The new measure aims to end the long-standing problem of students being denied their certificates due to unpaid school fees.
KCPE and KCSE certificates will be collected from Sub-County education offices starting 2026.
