EU Enhances Circular Economy Efforts with Revised Waste Framework Directive

The European Union is taking steps towards a more circular and sustainable economy through the updated Waste Framework Directive.

This directive outlines standard rules for extended producer responsibility (EPR) in the textile and footwear sectors and introduces binding food waste reduction targets for all Member States.

The aim is to

The revision aligns with the EU’s Competitiveness Compass and Strategic Agenda for 2024–2029, impacting Europe’s significant textile and clothing sector, which generated a turnover of €170 billion in 2023 and employed 1.3 million people across nearly 200,000 companies.
