Honouring Our Heroes
Every year, Heroes and Foreparents Day is a significant occasion that should be widely recognized.
The observance, established under the 2021 public holiday reforms, aims to honor individuals whose sacrifices and achievements have shaped the territory.
It provides a vital opportunity to reflect on Virgin Islands history and celebrate those who built the foundations enjoyed today.
Some years, the government has successfully honored these heroes, such as in 2023 when 10 national heroes were named, receiving well-deserved recognition.
However, other years have seen lackluster official observances, including this year's, which only included a statement from the premier and an online discussion by H. Lavity Stoutt Community College.
No formal government celebration was held this year.
