‘A little overlooked’: NYU fencing sets sights high - Washington Square News

NYU Fencing Team Sets High Goals

Under the leadership of fourth-year head coach Ben Bratton, the NYU men's and women's fencing teams achieved a record of 20-11 and 21-12, respectively, last season.

At the NCAA fencing championships, NYU finished 21st out of 33 teams, with current sophomore Anup Banerjee and graduate student Maria Stamos representing the university.

Despite competing against Division I programs like Columbia University and Duke University, which have more athletic resources and funding, NYU has high aspirations for the upcoming season.

"We have the capacity to get 12 [fencers] to NCAAs," Bratton told WSN. "If we're raising the bar and reaching numbers that are above what we did before, then we'll be in a good place.

NYU consistently faces strong competition, as less than 50 schools across the country have fencing teams.
