Nigerian President Bola Tinubu has replaced the chiefs of the country's top military units, following reports of an alleged coup plot.
The changes were announced on the 24th, and come after the Nigerian army stated that 16 officers were under investigation for "indiscipline and breach of service regulations".
Local media later reported that the officers' arrest was linked to an attempted coup, although the army disputed this claim.
Despite this, President Tinubu has carried out a swift shake-up of the top military brass, replacing the heads of the defense, army, naval, and air force services.
This move is not unprecedented, as President Tinubu's predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari, also sacked service chiefs in 2021 in response to security crises.
