International circular economy specialist, Reconomy, suggests that governments should focus on decoupling growth from resource use and optimize existing resources to boost supply chain resilience.
“The global economy remains overwhelmingly reliant on the extraction of dwindling virgin materials to sustain domestic growth and meet the demands of strategic industries. This is fundamentally unsustainable as the world continues to deplete finite resources faster than they can be replenished and just 6.9% of materials are circulated back into the economy*.”
According to David Gudgeon, Head of External Affairs at Reconomy Connect, this approach is necessary to achieve sustainability.
