Tourist Dies After Falling from Rome's Pantheon

A 69-year-old Japanese tourist, Morimasa Hibino, died after falling from the outer wall of the ancient Pantheon in central Rome.

According to local police, the incident occurred late Friday night. Hibino was found in a ditch next to the monument, approximately 7 meters (23 feet) below street level, by a priest who then alerted authorities.

The area around the Pantheon is sunken, with ancient Rome sitting about 23 feet below the current street level. Hibino's daughter, who was traveling with him, reported that he may have fallen while sitting on the perimeter wall after suffering a sudden illness that caused dizziness.

No foul play is suspected
