Roy Gardner's Sales Tickets
Paul Gardner, the current owner of Gardners' Market Sundriesmen, found intricate designs of numbers and lettering made by his father Roy for sales tickets and grocers' signs.
Paul's father Roy died in 1968, and his mother ran the shop until Paul took over in 1972 at the age of 13. Paul has been running the business without a day off since then.
- Roy bought small blackboard signs from Mr Patson in Artillery Lane.
- Mr Patson made the signs by slicing hardboard, cutting motorcycle spokes for pins, and painting them with blackboard paint.
