Maxwell Frost Urges State to Provide Stopgap SNAP Funding
Democratic U.S. Representative Maxwell Frost is calling on the state of Florida to provide temporary funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) as a federal shutdown threatens to withhold funding for 3 million Floridians relying on the program.
If the shutdown extends into November, funding for SNAP could be withheld, leaving millions without access to food assistance. Frost sent a letter to Governor Ron DeSantis and Senate President Ben Albritton, urging them to address the matter.
“Floridians are already dealing with worsening unemployment and soaring grocery prices. Food banks in Central Florida have already been reporting a record number of neighbors in need and strained resources,”
Frost wrote, highlighting the need for immediate action. Meanwhile, Washington Republicans are increasingly blaming congressional Democrats for the stalled talks.
