Refugees and Legal Immigrants to Lose SNAP Benefits
Over 4,000 refugees and legal immigrants in Franklin County will lose access to Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits in November due to new federal restrictions.
County officials announced that the changes will limit SNAP eligibility to U.S. citizens and green card holders who have completed a five-year residency period.
- Certain Haitian and Cuban refugees will be exempt from the changes.
- Most other legal immigrants, including:
- asylum seekers
- parolees
- domestic violence survivors
- human trafficking victims
