Mainers will not benefit from coastal rocket launch sites

Economic and oversight concerns make this a bad idea for our state.

Mark Roman of Solon, a fine woodworker and member of the Global Network Against Weapons & Nuclear Power in Space, comments on the idea of Maine becoming a rocket launch site.

Thom Moore, a retired NASA scientist, argued in a Sept. 17 op-ed that

“a space industry could make beneficial contributions to Maine’s economy and to the national supply of viable launch sites”
. However, claims of economic benefit must be weighed against the potential harm to Maine's traditional economy, which relies heavily on commercial fishing and tourism.
