Norwegian Solveig Lovseth won the Hawaiian Ironman triathlon world championship, becoming the latest Norwegian triathlon star and achieving the rare feat of winning at Kona on debut.
Australian Regan Hollioake finished 13th on debut, running a consistent pace on the marathon.
"I'm feeling pretty shattered right now - it was a really tough day out, tough conditions, which was reflected in the number of DNFs,"
Hollioake told AAP. Lovseth and Hollioake produced big results on a day of carnage, with Hawaii's notorious tropical humidity playing havoc at the pointy end of the field.
