Stephen Colbert jokingly angled for an extension after "The Late Show" was canceled by issuing a cheeky shoutout to his boss, Paramount Skydance CEO David Ellison.
During his opening monologue on National Boss' Day, Colbert commemorated the occasion with a humorous take on the traditional gift-giving.
"I hope you all treated your boss to their favorite gift — two minutes of awkward chitchat until the elevator arrives. Remember to say your kids' names so they don’t have to."
Colbert then spoke directly into a "David Ellison Appreciation Cam", declaring his love for the CEO and joking that it might buy them a couple more months.
"That oughta buy us a couple more months"
