The main vehicle access to Bamfield, a remote Vancouver Island community, was cut off by wildfire on August 11.
More than two months later, the fire is out, but the road closure remains, causing impatience among residents. Bamfield Main Road connects Bamfield, Anacla, and other remote communities to Port Alberni, providing access to essentials like doctor appointments and shopping.
Typically, the trip takes 60 to 90 minutes, but the road was closed due to the Mount Underwood wildfire. Residents were without power for weeks, and the only ways to leave the area were by boat or a lengthy forestry road detour.
The closure of the road has caused significant inconvenience to the residents, who are waiting for it to be reopened.
No official date has been announced for the road to reopen.
