Mayo Charity Secures Derelict Houses

A registered charity in Mayo has secured three derelict houses that were previously vacant and subject to a Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO) during the construction of the Turlough to Westport dual carriageway in 2016/17.

The CEO of Mayo County Council, Kevin Kelly, confirmed the news at a recent monthly meeting, although the name of the charity has not been released until the deal is finalized.

The news was widely welcomed by all councillors.

Westport-based Fine Gael councillor, Peter Flynn, had a motion seeking to reinvest the monies secured from the sale of these properties into local affordable or social homes. The motion was amended to apply to the three remaining properties.

However, Mr. Kelly explained that Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) sold the homes to Mayo County Council under strict criteria.

Author's summary: Mayo charity secures three derelict houses.
