Matt Payne has won the Bathurst 1000, combining with Supercars legend Garth Tander, despite crossing the line second.
Payne and Tander, driving for Grove Racing, withstood a tense top-three battle to claim the title in a near seven-hour epic in wet and wild conditions.
The victory marked Payne's first title at the Great Race and Tander's sixth Bathurst crown.
James Golding crossed the finish line first, but was penalized for an earlier collision with Erebus rookie Cooper Murray.
