American Public Television is set to receive a boost from the sale of Bob Ross paintings.
Thirty original Bob Ross paintings will be sold over the next three years to help offset station licensing fees for APT's Create multicast channel.
The idea for the sale was conceived by Joan Kowalski, president of Bob Ross Inc., after two privately held Ross paintings were sold by Bonhams for around $100,000 each in August.
My head started ticking away, like, 'Well, this many paintings would equal this much, and this many paintings would equal this much,'
says Kowalski, who found the amount the Bonhams pieces went for "very shocking".
The paintings were created by Ross on his long-running series, The Joy of Painting.
The sale will be conducted by Bonhams and is expected to help alleviate licensing fees for APT's Create channel.
