Sisterhood of Sound: 10 Years of Saffron

Saffron, a non-profit organisation founded in Bristol in 2015, has been pushing for gender equality in the music industry. After a decade, the organisation has achieved significant milestones, but there is still much to be done.

Founded by Laura Lewis-Paul, Saffron began as a small initiative with a big goal: to redefine who gets to create, perform, and be heard in the music industry. Lewis-Paul, who was working in community development at the time, started Saffron as a creative programme for young people.

When founder Laura Lewis-Paul first imagined Saffron, she wasn’t planning to start a movement.

Today, Saffron has become one of Bristol’s most important cultural forces, built by and for women and non-binary people. The organisation has made significant strides in promoting gender equality in the music industry, but its founder and alumni acknowledge that there is still much work to be done.

Author's summary: Saffron promotes gender equality in music.
