Weekend nor'easter batters Lowcountry beaches and homes

Nor'easter Hits Lowcountry Beaches and Homes

Beachfront homeowners in Wild Dunes, Isle of Palms, experienced the worst erosion in decades over the weekend.

Homeowner Jimmy Bernstein described the situation as "helpless" and "mental anguish" as water washed over sandbags meant to protect his home.

"You're helpless... It's mental anguish,"

Bernstein's raised beachfront home is at risk due to significant sand erosion, which may cause the concrete in his garage to crumble.

"I'm in danger of the slab falling into the ocean... It would be the fourth time,"

The combination of high tide and last week's king tide has created chaos on the island, with large waves constantly crashing against Bernstein's home.

"It just pounds against the house, constantly,"
