The Better Business Bureau and an animal advocacy group are speaking out about dog boarding safety after a former employee of a Seattle kennel faces an animal cruelty charge.
The owners of a 6-year-old Labrador Retriever, Mitch, intend to file a lawsuit against the boarding business, Lazy Dog Crazy Dog (LDCD) in Ballard, after their dog was allegedly beaten to death by a former employee.
"We are completely heartbroken. Mitch was our baby,"
said Mitch's owner, Meela Brocato. Court documents allege that 20-year-old Dejean Bowens hurt Mitch after the dog knocked something over and then waited over an hour to take him to an emergency vet.
Bowens pleaded "not guilty" to animal cruelty. Mitch's owners called on the boarding facility to do better.
The incident has raised concerns about dog boarding safety, prompting the Better Business Bureau to urge pet owners to verify the safety of boarding facilities.
