New Black Hawk Prototype Revealed
Sikorsky has unveiled a Black Hawk prototype that transforms the 50-year-old design into an autonomous aircraft.
The new prototype, called the U-Hawk, has a familiar size, shape, rotors, and green paint job, but with a new front end and no pilots, giving it a sci-fi feel.
- Replaced cockpit and nose with clam shell-style opening doors
- Doors are wide and tall enough for an ATV-sized vehicle to be driven onboard via a built-in ramp
The new front end — along with the lack of pilots — may strike former passengers or crew alike as strictly sci-fi.
The goal of the U-Hawk is to accompany manned missions in the air as an autonomous aircraft.
