AAA warns car buyers to watch for flood-damaged vehicles after severe weather

AAA Warns of Flood-Damaged Vehicles

As floodwaters recede across the country, AAA is cautioning used car buyers to be vigilant for vehicles damaged by recent storms.

According to AAA Mid-Atlantic spokesperson Morgan Dean, flood-damaged cars often reappear on used car lots or online marketplaces after being cleaned up to conceal signs of water exposure.

“Water inside of a vehicle, especially when we start to talk about mechanical components and wiring, can really cause some big problems down the road,”

Dean notes that floodwaters can destroy a car’s electrical and mechanical systems, leading to corrosion or hidden malfunctions that may not appear until months later.
