Time for Soft Secession

Blue states can utilize their economic influence to counter Trump's agenda, starting with California.

In 2013, venture capitalist Tim Draper proposed a "Six Californias" ballot initiative, suggesting that California, with a population of over 40 million, was too large and diverse to be governed efficiently. Draper argued that breaking it up into six new states would provide more representation, increasing the number of senators from two to 12.

Draper's scheme was part of a long tradition, with over 220 proposals for California to divide or secede since its admission to the Union in 1850.

The proposal was met with criticism, being seen as a Silicon Valley attempt to create a libertarian deregulation zone, as evidenced by the suggested name "Silicon Valley" for the Bay Area state.
