New York Unemployment Benefits to Increase
Individuals searching for jobs in New York State may experience relief from financial stress as unemployment benefits are set to rise significantly.
The weekly maximum amount that a person could collect was $504 since 2019, but due to inflation and rising costs, the new maximum amount has been increased to $869 per week.
It’s related to the average weekly wage in New York State; to the extent that wages keep up with inflation, it keeps up with inflation too.
According to Ian Greer, a research professor at Cornell University, the increase is a step in the right direction but may not be enough to address the gaps experienced by those collecting unemployment, particularly in areas with high costs of living.
