Whirlpool's Response to ADEQ's Concerns

Whirlpool has agreed to some of the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) requests to monitor and mitigate cancer-causing pollutants around the former Whirlpool Fort Smith plant.

The plant, which closed in June 2012, was found to have leaked trichloroethylene (TCE), a cancer-causing chemical, into surrounding properties. This admission was made by Whirlpool officials in 2013, following public pressure.

Ramboll, a Denmark-based company, was hired by Whirlpool to monitor pollution and provide remediation plans to the ADEQ.
