Why over a million Swedes play the Postcode Lottery every month

Ask a Swede why they take part in the Postcode Lottery, and the answer is usually twofold: the chance to win and the opportunity to contribute to good causes. The Postcode Lottery stands out for its community spirit, built on the idea that neighbors share both excitement and rewards.

More than a million Swedes aged 18 and over participate each month, hoping to win prizes such as money, cars, unique products, and memorable experiences. Since its launch in 2005, over 1,860 people have become millionaires, with total winnings in 2025 surpassing 1.5 billion SEK.

Together with your neighbours

In this lottery, prizes are drawn for specific postal codes. That means when your area wins, you and your neighbours celebrate together. Roughly one in six tickets wins monthly, and around 9,000 prizes are handed out daily.

“Each ticket contributes to a surplus that supports 62 nonprofit organisations, helping to create a fairer, more sustainable world for people, animals, and nature.”

So far, the Postcode Lottery has distributed over 16 billion SEK, becoming Sweden’s biggest private donor to the nonprofit sector. Its beneficiaries include Amnesty International, Save the Children (Rädda Barnen), Greenpeace, UNICEF, and many other groups promoting positive change.
