Carmelo Anthony shared advice that, in his view, could help Cade Cunningham elevate his game and reach elite NBA status. Despite consistent growth since being drafted first overall in 2021, Anthony believes Cunningham’s development still has untapped potential.
“His feel,” Anthony said on his podcast 7PM in Brooklyn. “Like, the feel for the game, his flow of the game.”
Anthony emphasized that Cunningham is beginning to embrace leadership within the Detroit Pistons, recognizing the confidence and responsibility that come with being the focal point of a team.
“I think what we’re seeing with Cade, he’s starting to understand that he’s wearing the white hat and he’s running that organ. So, with that comes confidence. With that comes responsibility, too.”
Statistically, his progress is clear. As a rookie, Cunningham averaged 5.6 assists per game. Last season, that number rose to 9.1, and this year he continues to average around nine assists, solidifying his reputation as one of the NBA’s best playmakers.
Anthony believes Cade Cunningham’s growing court awareness and leadership are transforming him from a promising young talent into a potential NBA superstar.
