Western Australia’s public hospital system is set for significant growth with three major hospital projects aimed at enhancing patient care options.
Negotiations to acquire St John of God Hospital Mount Lawley are nearing completion. This private hospital, currently with 197 beds, will join the public health system next year.
Up to 100 beds and 8 operating theatres will become available to public patients, expanding service capacity.
The surrounding land will offer opportunities for future expansions in hospital and aged care facilities.
A major upgrade is planned for the Royal Perth Hospital Emergency Department with a new six-storey building on a selected site. Two floors will be dedicated to this Emergency Department.
After assessing options, a brand-new hospital will be developed on vacant land adjacent to the existing Peel Health Campus.
This approach allows faster construction with minimal disturbance to existing hospital services.
When completed, the former health campus site will be evaluated for aged care accommodation development.
The new six-storey Peel Health Campus hospital will include:
"A brand-new hospital will be built on an empty site next to the existing location. This option allows the new hospital to be built faster with less disruption to current hospital services."
Author's summary: Three new hospital projects in Western Australia will enhance patient capacity, modernize emergency services, and support future aged care development.
