One of California’s richest lakeside communities, Incline Village at Lake Tahoe, has issued a serious public warning to its residents, including several Silicon Valley billionaires. The alert advises boiling tap water before consumption due to possible contamination in the water system.
"The community’s water system experienced an event that resulted in loss of pressure in the distribution system, which may cause backpressure, backsiphonage, or a net movement of water from outside the pipe to the inside through cracks, breaks, or joints."
Officials explained that such issues create pathways for external contaminants to infiltrate the system. Substances that enter through worn or damaged pipes can include harmful microorganisms and waste materials.
"Such a system failure carries with it a high potential that fecal contamination or other disease-causing organisms could enter the distribution system."
The notice, distributed on Monday, emphasizes health risks from the potential contamination and urges residents to take immediate measures for safety.
"DO NOT DRINK THE WATER WITHOUT BOILING IT FIRST."
Residents are instructed to boil water before drinking, cooking, or brushing teeth until further notice.
Authorities in Incline Village have warned residents, including tech elites, to boil tap water following a system failure that may have introduced harmful contaminants into the local supply.
