The Chargers acquired Trevor Penning via trade before their game against the Steelers to strengthen their offensive line, but it remains uncertain if he will play Sunday night.
Despite managing to win, the Chargers have faced significant injuries, including to both starting offensive tackles. Los Angeles lost Rashawn Slater some time ago, and Joe Alt recently sustained an injury that placed him on injured reserve.
Penning, who is versatile and able to play multiple positions, was brought in as reinforcement. However, it is too soon to confirm if he will be ready to suit up for the Steelers game.
“Trevor Penning’s status for the Steelers game is to be determined.”
Harbaugh expressed excitement about Penning joining the field and highlighted his qualities from their initial impressions.
“I feel like we’ve got good players. Enough good, tough [players], which we liked about him. Finishes, played a lot of football. I think he’s kind of like what we like. Love the versatility, but also the ability to play tackle. That’s what the week of practice will be for, to figure out exactly where Trevor fits in best.”
The Chargers’ offensive line remains challenged by injuries, and while Penning’s addition brings promise, his availability for the upcoming game is still uncertain.
Author’s note: The Chargers face critical lineup decisions as they work to overcome injuries and integrate new players like Penning.
