Hollywood icon Sally Kirkland, 84, is currently in hospice following a severe health ordeal over the past year.
Kirkland's representative, Michael Greene, told the Daily Mail that the actress is in a hospice at a Palm Springs hospital after developing dementia this year. She suffered multiple fractures—including four bones in her neck, right wrist, and left hip—and subsequently faced two separate life-threatening infections.
The combination of injuries and infections required extended hospitalizations and rehabilitation that exceeded her insurance coverage of 100 days. A GoFundMe campaign established for Kirkland explains she is now "resting comfortable" in the hospice.
"This past year Sally fractured her four bones in her neck, right wrist, and her left hip... While recovering she developed two separate life-threatening infections."
Michael Greene said he is traveling from JFK to see Kirkland and expressed, "She will not go until I’m holding her hand."
Cody Galloway, Kirkland's close friend and former student, is currently by her side.
